“We all want to provide those moments and memories that we remember for a lifetime. The people of Guatemala stay with you long after you have returned to your own country.
This will be my third trip to Guatemala to help build bottle schools and each time I have been fortunate enough to share this experience with my son, Ethan.
We have come to love the people and the culture and look forward to coming back for many years to come, creating more memories. If you have ever wanted to donate your time to something
that truly makes a difference, this is the trip for you. If you’ve been wanting to come on a voluntour trip, just do it – you will be forever changed.”

Voluntourism is a term coined to represent travel with a sense of purpose. The idea of volunteering time and resources to help people all over the world and to make a positive change. When I first met Zach Balle of Hug It Forward I was immediately drawn to his passion, his vision and the concept of building schools out of recycled trash. What an amazing idea! And to think this young man was actually doing something to “Make a Dent in the Universe.” I knew I wanted to participate in building a Bottle School from the moment I learned about Hug It Forward.
My first trip to Guatemala with my 15 year old son Seth was truly transformational! You go on these trips because you want to help people, and we do make a difference in the lives of many, however, what I didn’t realize was how powerful an impact this experience was to have on me and on my son. We have forever become changed people because of our time in the villages of Guatemala and I am eternally grateful.
Hug It Forward staff and team members are extraordinary. They are very professional, attentive to the varying needs of the volunteers who come to Guatemala and passionate about making the experience one that you will never forget. These people have become my extended family and I applaud all that they do for so many people! Come join us and you will never regret it.
– John Kellen

Fundraising for bottle schools

You might also like to fundraise for Hug It Forward bottle schools. Fundraising for bottle schools is optional – it is not a requirement of participating in a bottle school trip.

If you choose to fundraise, we suggest a $250 fundraising goal, but some people choose to do more or less than this. It’s really up to you – how much you think your friends and families can give, how creative you can be, and how much time you’re prepared to put into it.

See more information about fundraising.
