This is a volunteer opportunity for each of us to have an active and positive influence on those messages. The Hug It Forward bottle school program affords the children of Guatemala better opportunity to further their education and expand their potential to contribute to their own communities, to Guatemala, and ultimately to the larger global community. In addition the program encourages ecological awareness, promotes recycling and fosters community involvement.
On a personal level we have found these volunteer experiences to be a meaningful and rewarding way of “giving back”…meaningful in participating with a community to capture the benefits of education we too often take for granted, and rewarding in the genuine welcome and gratitude we have received from every community we have visited. This is truly a life changing experience…a “reset” to introspection gratitude and appreciation…the ultimate “selfie” of your soul.
The on-site Hug It Forward staff assures a comfortable and safe environment. Commercial accommodations are provided along with excellent regional cuisine prepared family style by our own chef. Ground transportation is via well maintained vehicles with skilled drivers experienced in the nuances of the Guatemalan roads. Construction activities may include cutting & bending rebar, tying in bottles, mixing concrete, or painting…each involving a moderate degree of manual labor, but there is always something for everyone to do.
Other activities include cultural interaction with the community, a guided tour of nearby Mayan ruins and a community hike led by the kids…it’s work, it’s play, it’s sharing, it’s personal growth…it’s just plain FUN. Each experience begins and ends in Antigua, Guatemala, a lovely World Heritage Site steeped in history and a showcase of regional culture.

How to pay for your trip

There are several ways to pay for your bottle school trip. You can avoid paying fees if you choose Option 1 or Option 2. Choose Option 1 if you have a PayPal balance or if your bank account is linked to PayPal. If neither of these are the case, please choose Option 2 to avoid paying fees. If you want to use PayPal and don’t mind paying fees, please choose Option 3.
Option 1:Pay using Paypal’s “Send Money” feature”
- Log in to Paypal (www.paypal.com)
- Click the “Send Money” tab
- Enter our email address servetheworldtoday@gmail.com and the amount ($1,299 per person)
- Before you click “Continue”, choose the “I’m sending money to family or friends” button. If you have a PayPal balance or your bank account is linked to PayPal, you will not have to pay fees. If neither of these are the case, please choose Option 2.
- In the “Message” box on the following page, please enter which trip you are booking!
- That’s it!
Option 2:Mail us a check

Option 3: Paying by Paypal (this costs $39 in fees)
Click the “Buy Now” button on the right to pay the $1,299 cost of your voluntourism trip, plus $39 in Paypal fees.
Fundraising for bottle schools
You might also like to fundraise for Hug It Forward bottle schools. Fundraising for bottle schools is optional – it is not a requirement of participating in a bottle school trip.
If you choose to fundraise, we suggest a $250 fundraising goal, but some people choose to do more or less than this. It’s really up to you – how much you think your friends and families can give, how creative you can be, and how much time you’re prepared to put into it.
