Your chance to go on a Bottle School voluntourism trip!
Have a Direct Experience with your donation
Hug It Forward has empowered communities to complete 68 bottle schools since 2009. And now, YOU can be part of building a bottle school with your own hands: Have a Direct Experience with your donation.
We have developed a program to enable up to 25 people to take a very different sort of vacation. A Voluntourism Trip gives you the opportunity to volunteer while traveling, work alongside kids and adults in the community, and experience Guatemalan culture. It’s not your typical vacation: it’s all about participating and connecting, serving and giving back.
As well as helping to build a bottle school, you will experience life in the beautiful country of Guatemala through the eyes of members of the community. You will also visit Mayan ruins, walk the streets of the picturesque colonial town of Antigua (a UNESCO World Heritage Center), experience Guatemalan culture and hospitality, and hear first hand what it was like to live through a civil war. Click here to see a sample itinerary.
The cost of your trip is $1,299 per person. The cost of the trip includes all accommodations, transfers, meals prepared by a private cook, emergency assistance and transportation within Guatemala, English-speaking guide, and activities. The cost of the trip does not include flights in and out of GUA, travel insurance (required), and money for gifts/souvenirs and tips.
Fundraising for bottle schools is optional. It is NOT required to participate on the trip. However, if you would like to fundraise, we suggest a $250 fundraising goal, but some people choose to do more or less than this. It’s really up to you – how much you think your friends and families can give, how creative you can be, and how much time you’re prepared to put into it.
There are also ways that you can fundraise towards the $1,299 cost of your trip. See our fundraising page for more details.
