I’ve been blessed to do a lot of mission work throughout my life. But there’s something different about the “Bottle School” experience that I cannot explain in words. The Hug it Forward staff creates an atmosphere where you automatically feel like family. They are some of the most genuine, loving, engaging leaders you’ll ever meet. And I am honored to serve alongside them this July!

Hand-in-hand we will work with the community to build our bottle school. Although the days are long, they are FUN. We often break out in random dance parties or a few rounds of “pato pato ganzo” (duck duck goose). During lunch, we are rewarded with the most delicious home cooked food you will ever eat – I could talk about Christie’s cooking for days! So whether you’ve been all around the world or have never left your zip code, you can embark on this trip knowing you are truly making a sustainable impact in the community and leave realizing that the Guatemalan families might be the ones who have left the bigger impact on your life.

The truly wonderful moments of joy in this beautiful world are not the moments of self-satisfaction, but in serving others. It’s a joy that comes from outside ourselves. And together we can make a difference that lasts. “But whatever you do, find the God-centered, Christ-exhalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it and live for it and die for it.”

I absolutely love being a part of an idea that brings people together from all walks of life. From my little brother (age 10) to my Gramps (age 76) and every age in between, we are going to have a blast! Most of all, visiting other cultures makes me realize truly how big our God is. I cannot wait to step back on the cobble stones streets of Antigua this summer and embark upon another life changing week in the communities of Guatemala. Excited for y’all to experience this with my family and I!

Fundraising for bottle schools

You might also like to fundraise for Hug It Forward bottle schools. Fundraising for bottle schools is optional – it is not a requirement of participating in a bottle school trip.

If you choose to fundraise, we suggest a $250 fundraising goal, but some people choose to do more or less than this. It’s really up to you – how much you think your friends and families can give, how creative you can be, and how much time you’re prepared to put into it.

See more information about fundraising.
